Sustainability is more than a trend for us at Schul-Knickmann; it is a fixed component of our actions. We focus on durable, high-quality furnishing solutions from our manufacturers that conserve resources. Because every step counts.
A special focus lies on the selection of responsible materials. Wood as a renewable raw material plays an important role in this: it is robust, timeless, and binds CO₂. We ensure that the materials come from sustainable and controlled forestry. In addition to material selection, we place great importance on environmentally friendly processing and low-pollutant solutions. This creates healthy and sustainable working and learning environments. Our goal: furnishing concepts that are not only functional and aesthetic, but also make a positive contribution to people and the environment.
What we pay attention to
As a specialist retailer, we place great importance on working with manufacturers who act responsibly and sustainably. Our goal is to offer products that conserve resources and contribute to a livable future.
1. We ensure that our manufacturers use sustainable materials and resource-efficient production processes.
2. Even in the product design of our manufacturers, care is taken to ensure that materials are as recyclable as possible.
3. We select products that enable a long service life through high quality and timeless design.
4. Many of our manufacturers use environmentally certified materials and upholstery fabrics
5. Our manufacturers also pay attention to efficient and as low-emission as possible supply chains in transport and logistics.
6. Some manufacturers additionally offer solutions to return products to the material cycle at the end of their life cycle.
Certified to Level 3
Viasit is certified according to the LEVEL standard of the European Furniture Industry Association FEMB. LEVEL is an independent and comprehensive standard that follows a holistic approach to assessing sustainability. It does not only evaluate individual products or company behaviour, but thoroughly analyses all areas—from products and production and organisational structures through to the entire supply chain.
The criteria catalogue specifically assesses the company’s environmental impact in the four areas of materials, energy, atmosphere, and the impact on human health and ecosystems. The evaluation is carried out using a standardised points system with three levels.
EMAS
EMAS is strongly performance-oriented and includes clearly defined environmental objectives to which we are committed. These include, for example, reducing the consumption of energy, packaging materials, and selected resources. These objectives are documented in detail in our environmental statement and are publicly accessible.
Compliance is regularly reviewed through audits conducted by an independent, state-accredited environmental verifier.
PEOPLE
For us at Schul-Knickmann, taking responsibility means not only focusing on products and quality, but also on the people behind them. Sustainable action always begins with respectful interaction with one another.
Our employees are the foundation of our daily work. A safe working environment, appreciation, and good working conditions are a matter of course for us. We place great importance on creating a working atmosphere shaped by trust, team spirit, and opportunities for personal and professional development.
In addition, we feel closely connected to our region. Within our means, we support local projects and initiatives—whether in education, sports, or community-related areas.

Together with our manufacturers, we help provide more sustainable solutions and reduce environmental impact. In particular, we pay attention to the following aspects:
- Selection of products whose production is focused on reduced use of resources such as materials, energy, and water
- Preference for environmentally friendly, durable, and as recyclable as possible materials
- Cooperation with manufacturers who use certified wood-based materials from sustainable forestry (e.g. PEFC™)
- Products with a long service life due to high-quality workmanship and timeless design
- Reduction of packaging and as environmentally friendly logistics processes as possible
- Consideration of environmental aspects such as emissions and sustainable production conditions among our manufacturers
- Focus on regional and European supply chains, where possible
Our goal is to work together with our manufacturers to contribute to environmental protection and to provide sustainable furnishing solutions for our customers.
SUPPLIERS AND MANUFACTURERS

The environmental awareness and sustainable practices of our manufacturers have a decisive influence on the quality and sustainability of our offering. That is why we carefully select our manufacturers and focus on long-term, trusting cooperation with the goal of continuously developing together.
In doing so, we pay attention to, among other things:
- Certifications such as DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 14001
- Certifications in the field of sustainable forestry, e.g. PEFC (CoC)
- Compliance with clearly defined codes of conduct and sustainability standards
- Short and efficient delivery routes where possible – preferably regional over international
This ensures that at Schul-Knickmann, sustainability is considered throughout the entire supply chain.
